My chosen theme, Esports, has a always been a topic i have been interested in and finding a way to talk about that side of video games has always interested me. Along with being interested in Video essays and podcasts, taking both and turning it into my EPQ project seemed like the perfect thing to do.
Initially the first step was to think about what question i needed to ask, to do this mapping out ideas seemed to be a good option.
My ideas consist of a brief overview of what i wanted to cover and in what form, here is a list of topics:
Outlining briefly: What Esports is, why I'm interested, and how it links to my future aims
Talking about its growth, where it is now and where it's heading
It's influence on the video game industry
Possibly comparing it to actual sports and where we should be drawing the line (mentioned briefly)
How it has influenced the world and now creating moral panics (link to current events in china)
All of these points eventually lead me to the question i needed to ask for this project
E-sports: What are it's origins and where is it heading? which lead me to the title for my project 'the rise of Esports'
Along with picking a question another main component of an EPQ project is improvement, here is a list of 5 things that i intend to improve on over the course of my project:
Being able to use and find secondary research efficiently and thoroughly, along with being able to quote sources
The ability to script write a video essay
The ability to edit a video essay in a compelling manner
Being able to conduct primary research and write a good survey/questionnaire
Being able to analyse the survey/questionnaire data and use it in a video essay
